The first monograph on the textile designer Eugenia Pinna (b. Nule, 1956), a key figure in the renewal of Sardinian weaving. Through essays by Anty Pansera and Cosimo Zene, accompanied by images of the 31 rugs created expressly for this exhibition and publishing project – which includes a show at Spazio Ilisso in Nuoro – readers can follow the milestones in Pinna’s technical and artistic development. Her work bears witness to a new beginning for textile experimentation after the powerful impetus given in the 1950s by Eugenio Tavolara, who developed a vocabulary of signs, forms and colours designed for contemporary living. The volume sets out to document the remarkable outcome of a partnership between sophisticated design and the island’s specialist craftsmanship: every piece was made using local raw materials and natural dyes, showcasing the great skill handed down over centuries by the weavers of Nule.
